54-2_ravenPeter Raven, acclaimed as “Hero of the Planet” by TIME Magazine, spoke at the University of Massachusetts Boston on March 24th. His talk covered biodiversity, sustainability and the current environmental crisis. Raven is a leading botanist and environmentalist, and serves as president emeritus of the Missouri Botanical Garden.

According to UMass Boston News, Raven said that we are at a time “when human numbers and human pressures are greater than they ever have been, and it makes it completely nonsensical to suppose that because we’ve had problems before and we have problems now, that we can solve them easily by applying the same kinds of methods that we did before,”

Raven was invited to speak at Umass Boston by Professor Kamal Bawa, faculty fellow of the Center for Governance and Sustainability.
