Administrator of the EPA and UMass Boston Alumna Gina McCarthy on Global Sustainability

Gina_McCarthy_official_portraitGina McCarthy is the most powerful environmental leader in the United States. As Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, McCarthy oversees a wide array of issues relating to the environment. In general, the EPA deals with any issue in the United States related to human health and the environment. Specifically, the EPA cracks down on corporations that create unhealthy environments, promotes standards related to carbon and other chemical emissions, and more.

On Wednesday, March 11th, McCarthy spoke at the Council on Foreign Relations about climate change and how her organization is working with other nations to craft effective international climate policy. Notably, she discusses the recent report that suggests climate-change related drought played a significant role in sparking the on-going civil war in Syria. Check out the video below:
