Maria Ivanova Appointed to Board of United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability

The Center for Governance and Sustainability is proud to announce that our own Co-Director Maria Ivanova has been appointed to serve as a member of the Board of the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). She has been appointed for a three-year term, to begin immediately and last until 2016. In this capacity, Professor Ivanova will use her expertise in global environmental governance to assist the Institute in its mission to build partnerships and to develop interdisciplinary, policy-relevant innovations.

United Nations University is a global think tank and a postgraduate teaching organization that is headquartered in Japan. Its curricula and activities focus on issue areas important to the United Nations such as global sustainability, environmental governance, development economics, and more. Specifically, the Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability is concerned with how to “advance efforts towards a more sustainable future, through policy-oriented research and capacity development focused on sustainability and its social, economic and environmental dimensions.” UNU-IAS is headquartered in Tokyo, and is one of 13 UNU institutes and programs.
