Each month, the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa highlights an alumni of the many U.S.-sponsored exchange programs. Candidates are selected for their continued efforts in community service and contributions to the development of their nation in various sectors. The U.S. Embassy’s Alumni of the Month for the month of May is Negusu Aklilu, an environmental climate change campaigner and youth advisor.

Negusu is currently working as a Climate Change Advisor for DFID-Ethiopia, where he moved after serving as Director of Forum for Environment (FfE), a local NGO, for almost eight years.  He has worked as an environmental campaigner for the last 15 years and has played a leading role in advocating for environmental rights in Ethiopia.

Negusu was selected as one of the 13 emerging leaders at the 2009  Global Environmental Governance Forum in Glion, Switzerland.
