Kenya’s Minister for Environment and Mineral Resources, John Michuki, has been re-elected to co-chair the first meeting of the Consultative Group of Ministers or High Level Representatives on International Environmental Governance with Finnish Minister for Environment, Paula Letohmäki, which will be held in July 2010 in Nairobi, Kenya. The UNEP Governing Council established the Consultative Group in February 2009, at the 25th session of the Governing Council of the United Nations Environment Programme, also known as the Belgrade process, to work on a set of options for improving international governance and present them to the Governing Council/Global Ministerial at the 26th session of the UNEP Governing Council in February 2011. In the announcement statement the re-election of Honorable Minister Michuki was described as, “a clear manifestation of the high esteem he holds as zealous and a true champion who has continuously and strategically anchored the influence and leadership that Kenya can provide on environmental management, protection and conservation.” For more information on the Belgrade process, visit our GEG Bookshelf page.
