GEG Forum: Reflecting on the Past, Moving into the Future

June 28-July 2 2009, Switzerland

The Global Environmental Governance Forum will bring together past, present, and future architects of the environmental governance system to devise a blueprint for reform of the contemporary international environmental institutions in light of the original vision for the system’s form and function. It will seize a unique opportunity to learn directly from the individuals whose ideas and aspirations formed the international institutions for the environment. The event will gather former and present Executive Directors of UNEP, including Maurice Strong, Mostafa Tolba, Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Klaus Töpfer and Achim Steiner. The outputs generated through the Forum are expected to make a constructive input to the further international policy discussions to develop a more effective and coherent international environmental governance architecture.
