World Leadership Conference 2011 in Singapore
From 13-15 July, the World Leadership Conference 2011 takes place in Singapore. It is a platform for youth all over Asia and the Pacific to come together to learn, voice out and take action towards a green sustainable future. Supported by the GEG Project and endorsed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), WLC 2011 is an entirely youth-led event organized by a team of volunteers from ECO Singapore.
The World Leadership Conference was initiated in 2009 with consulting over 300 youth from 33 countries towards the climate negotiations. WLC 2011 will be dedicated towards the regional build up in Asia-Pacific towards the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio 2012. The specific themes for the conference are Green Economy to Eradicate Poverty (13 July), Energy for a Low Carbon Future (14 July), and International/Global Environmental Governance (15 July).
The conference has three objectives:
1) To be a platform for environmental leaders to turn their passions for environmental causes into actions by empowering them to embark on their own green intitiatives.
2) To allow young environmental leaders to voice their opinions on environmental sustainability through crafting a consolidated paper to be submitted to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio 2012.
3) To make it possible for youth to learn the latest news, ideas, and opinions on important global issues from a line up of experts. To support the knowledge building in this regard, the GEG Project connected the WLC organizers with our network of emerging leaders, and Clara Nobbe will be one of the keynote speakers.
